Caryl Getting Their Own Show!

October 04, 2020

The Walking Dead is hitting the road with Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride), who will return in a sequel series from co-creators Scott Gimple and Angela Kang. Described as a “road show” with a different tone and feel from past seasons of The Walking Dead, the as-yet-untitled spinoff won’t focus on Daryl and Carol exclusively — other characters will be along for the ride — but the two best friends will discover a new frontier in The Walking Dead Universe when the new series revs its engine sometime in 2023.

“With ‘Daryl and Carol,’ I can’t say too much about it, but I will say it’s going to be very different from The Walking Dead, going to have a different tone. It’s going to have a different mission churning under it,” Gimple, who serves as TWD chief content officer, told The Los Angeles Times. “There will be characters all around Carol and Daryl. And, of course, the musical numbers.”

Jokes aside, the spinoff won’t be quite as dark and heavy as previous seasons of The Walking Dead.

“There’s many layers of approvals and things, but [it’s meant to be] a little lighter. Not in a way that feels frivolous, but I think like all of us are looking to have fun in that world,” said Kang, who moves over to the spinoff as showrunner. “It’s a road show — I hope I can say that — and so I think it will feel distinct. It’s definitely something that Norman and Melissa and I and Scott have all talked about, what we crave tonally.”

The current tenth season of the main show planted seeds for the spinoff as early as the Season 10 premiere, where Daryl and Carol mulled over hitting the road to New Mexico. As Season 11 introduces the Commonwealth, a sprawling civilization that has mostly resumed normal life despite the ongoing zombie apocalypse, it’s easy to see outsiders Daryl and Carol journeying somewhere new.

“I think Daryl, the lone wolf, we’ve always thought, ‘That guy just rides off into the sunset at some point.’ Carol is kind of the same person,” Kang said, adding the Commonwealth story “touches on things I think are very relevant about class and about society.”

“[Comic creator] Robert Kirkman really tapped into something that I think a lot of us are thinking about,” she continued. “Obviously we’ve had to pivot to these other episodes that are part of the sort of Season 10 continuation bloc, and then for Season 11 there’s just these stories with themes that are meaningful to all of us.”

Norman Reedus Explains Daryl & Carol’s Special Relationship

November 24, 2018

There is no denying Carol and Daryl have had a special relationship throughout their time together on The Walking Dead, especially from Norman Reedus.

During an interview on AMC’s Talking Dead show, The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon actor Norman Reedus opened up about Daryl and Carol’s relationship which has remained platonic through all of its screen tie.

“There’s something about Carol and Daryl, like she knows him better than he knows himself,” Reedus said. “If somebody else were to tell him certain things, I don’t think he would hear them but, when she says stuff to him, he listens. To somebody else it might seem like he’s fine out there in the words but to her it’s like he’s lacking something and it’s become more of an emotional connection that he’s gotten rid of. Because of what happened, he’s chasing the moon. He’s never gonna catch it but he’s chasing the moon. So, she kind of takes him off guard.”

Check out the interview with Reedus as posted to Talking Dead‘s Twitter account below.

While Melissa McBride’s Carol has become romantic with King Ezekiel, many fans are still clamoring to see Carol and Daryl become more than friends. “His blessing did mean a lot to her,” McBride told ComicBook.com of Daryl’s sentiments of Carol and Ezekiel in the Season Nine premiere. “She wanted to know if he is still gonna be cool!”

As for Carol and Daryl’s future: “You never know, you know?” McBride told ET (via FanFest) ahead of Season Nine. “I love how they have each other’s back. I love their relationship. Whatever it is, I love their relationship. The fans can look forward to more Daryl and Carol scenes.”

There’s No Denying Daryl And Carol’s Chemistry

April 17, 2016

During a recent video interview, The Walking Dead’s Melissa McBride conceded that there is obvious chemistry between her character of Carol and Norman Reedus’s Daryl Dixon — but said that even she has no idea whether there’s any kind of long-term plan to pair them up as a romantic couple.

“There’s no denying that there is chemistry there,” she said. “You know, I love Norman….They are peers, and they have an amazing, wonderful relationship bond — how they identify with one another, the room that they give one another, and the kind of side-by-side journey they’re going through each in their own realm.”

The Walking Dead returns in October, after a stopover at Comic Con International: San Diego in July to debut the trailer. In the meantime, Fear the Walking Dead airs on Sunday nights on AMC

‘The Walking Dead’ Director Greg Nicotero Talks That Funny Porch Scene Between Daryl And Carol

March 04, 2015

“The Walking Dead” director Greg Nicotero revealed that Norman Reedus’ “You look ridiculous!” line in last Sunday’s episode was actually an ad-lib.

“The Walking Dead” actor Norman Reedus revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly — published last month — that Daryl would have funny one-liners in the remaining episodes of the show’s Season 5. And in last Sunday’s episode, titled “Remember,” viewers have finally heard one of those much anticipated lines.

After Carol (Melissa McBride) ditched her badass persona in favor of a Stepford-esque housewife during her one-on-one interview with Deanna (Tovah Feldshuh), she stepped out of their group’s house dressed in khakis and a cardigan sweater. As she walked down the sidewalk to go to her new job in Alexandria, Norman yelled, “You look ridiculous!”

Greg Nicotero, who directed the episode, told Entertainment Weekly that Reedus’ line was actually an ad-lib. “When I did the cut, I was like, I’m leaving that in because that is exactly what Daryl would say,” he told the outlet. “And I don’t know if it made it in to the episode or not, but at one point Carol goes, ‘Thank you!’ as she’s walking away.

The 51-year-old SFX and make-up wizard further discussed the scene in an interview with Yahoo TV, saying, “When we shot that scene, we all stood there in shock and looked at Melissa, and like… that’s a tricky thing to pull off, that transformation of a character.”

“We’re so accustomed to spending years watching all of these people dirty, sweaty, covered in blood. [So] when Melissa stepped out the first time, we all sort of [started] laughing,” Nicotero explained. “Even Melissa was like, ‘This is so silly. How are we going to pull this off?'”

Nicotero continued, “When we did the first couple of takes, Norman was just giggling and laughing at how ludicrous this whole idea of Carol dressing up as a soccer mom was. Every time I watch that scene, and especially the way Norman looks up at her and then looks back down, he’s like ‘Pfft.’ He does that great thing. Norman always does.”

“I love Norman and Melissa, and they’re both such genuine performers that just adding that little flair takes it to such a great place,” he said.

“The Walking Dead’s” next episode titled “Forget” airs Sunday, March 8, at 9:00 p.m. on AMC.

Norman Reedus Talks Daryl Dixon’s Possible Romance With Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier; ‘The Walking Dead’ Star Says ‘I Don’t Want To See It Coming’

February 13, 2015

With the return of “The Walking Dead” season 5, fans have been waiting to hear more about Norman Reedus’s Daryl Dixon. Will romance bloom between Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier?

In an recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “The Walking Dead” season 5 star Norman Reedus shares his thoughts about Daryl Dixon’s romantic relationship, and the possibility that Carol Peletier might be on the receiving end.

Norman Reedus said, “I think if he’s going to zero in on one, it’s going to happen by accident, and he’s not going to be the one zeroing in first.” He continued, “Then he’ll just stay with her. I think he’s like an eagle-once they start flying together, they’ll always fly together.”

He also compares real life from the possible romantic experience that his character Daryl Dixon might experience. “It’s become such a big deal, who I hook up with [on ‘The Walking Dead’]. In real life, when you hook up with someone and it’s real, you don’t see it coming, so I don’t want to see it coming.”

For the fans who are waiting for romance to begin between Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier in “The Walking Dead” season 5, this is not good news. Caryl (amalgamation of Carol and Daryl) is the most obvious coupling; from what Norman Reedus has recently pointed out, should there be romance for Daryl Dixon, he doesn’t want it to be as obvious as Carol.

Meanwhile, Dixonne fans (Daryl and Michonne) are still rooting for Danai Gurira’s Michonne to claim Daryl Dixon’s heart. To which Norman Reedus commented in an interview with Daily Beast and said, “She’s a cute girl. I’m not opposed to it.”
